Torta Casera

RECIPE

▢  2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour (343 g)

▢  1 tablespoon baking powder (16 g)

▢  Zest of 1 orange

▢  4 eggs (separate the yolks from the whites)

▢  1 cup orange juice

▢  1 ½ cups sugar

▢  1 cup + 2 tablespoons butter (250 g)

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form and set aside.
  2. In another bowl, beat the butter and sugar together until light and creamy.
  3. Add the egg yolks one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  4. Stir in the orange zest.
  5. Gradually add the dry and liquid ingredients alternately, mixing until combined.
  6. Finally, fold the beaten egg whites into the batter gently using a spatula (do not use a mixer).
  7. Pour the batter into a previously greased and floured baking pan.
  8. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (180°C) for about 40 minutes, or until a knife or toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
